Hong Kong – 15 May 2019 Savills has been appointed as sole leasing agent for a New York styled hotel and serviced apartment: The Mercury. Located at 23 Mercury Street, Tin Hau, the property boasts 69 residences with premium services and facilities and is set to bring urban-chic living from New York’s Soho to Hong Kong.
Not only is it in a conveniently accessible location, The Mercury is only steps away from the Fortress Hill and Tin Hau MTR stations, but it is also close to the foodie hub of Electric Road, home to well over 100 international eateries, and the hipster hangout, Tai Hang. This makes The Mercury ideal for vibrant individuals, cosmopolitan couples, and new families.
The 26-storey property is designed by Goudie Associates, offering an industrial style inspired by a New York warehouse. Comprised of 69 one and two bedroom apartments ranging between 411 and 898 sq ft., and characterized by great windows with panoramic harbour views, the rooms are fully furnished with all the essentials for a top-notch lifestyle experience. On the expansive rooftop terrace, there are outdoor barbeque pits while in-house catering is also possible. In addition, the fitness centre, laundry room, all-day services and daily cleaning add to its charm and convenience.
In particular, the rooftop terrace features a specially commissioned art piece by muralist, Alana Tsui. Alana has created bespoke wall art in New Zealand and New York City and her bold monochromatic patterns form a pair of 4-metre high photogenic and “instagramic” wings at the entrance to The Mercury. On the rooftop, a 14-metre wide mural on a half wall exploits the building’s harbour views and sunset lighting and includes local elements like a junk and feng shui phoenix for luck and prosperity. Alana’s artwork helps lend The Mercury is own very unique personality.
Edina Wong, Head of Residential Services, Savills, who is leading the marketing of the project remarked: “The Mercury mirrors a similar street life vibe to that of New York City’s Central Park or London’s Hyde Park, as it only takes 10 minutes on foot to Victoria Park, so tennis, swimming, morning runs and any relaxing leisure activities you could imagine are available right on your doorstep. The neighbourhood has been undergoing a transformation which includes the Oil Street Project by Cheung Kong and North Point Estate Redevelopment by Sun Hung Kai Properties in 2018 and 2019.”
“Since January, leasing demand has remained generally healthy, but budget constraints are still noticeable. In Q1, we noted high activity levels for low to mid-end budgets. Overall, newer stock with better connections and trendier neighbourhoods are more popular. In addition, the recently completed Central-Wanchai Bypass has dramatically shortened travel times between Central and Island East, home to many new Grade A office buildings and multinational tenants. We therefore believe that Tin Hau will become a highly desirable residential destination for local and overseas professionals,” Edina added.
